I took this photograph in 2021 near the top of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, just past Rock Cut at over 12,000 feet. Hoping for a beautiful sunset, we were blessed with an incredible one. Up there the trees drop away and the tundra opens in every direction. As the clouds broke, light swept across the mountains, and a small herd of elk had bedded down beside a pond, completely unbothered.
It seemed right to pair it with Psalm 121: "I lift up my eyes to the mountains. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth."
